News from Brasília 10/14/2020

Hello! How have you been lately? Sorry I haven't written for the past days. Kids had a school break and we made a road trip around Central Europe. It was nice, although it was sad to see how the cities are struggling after all these months of pandemia. In Budapest, for example, most of the restaurants were closed, no red bus on the streets, souvenir stalls of the Central Market closed. sad. I've been following up the news about the situation of coronavirus in Brasilia and Brazil. Finally the numbers are going down, but there is nothing much to be proud of. Only in DF over 3,000 people lost their lives because of COVID-19.

201, 230 confirmed cases
3,466 deaths

  • Rain in Brasilia!! 🌧🌧

After 4 months without rain, this is certainly good news for Brasilia.

The sad news is about coronavirus in DF. If by April, May, June, Brasilia was doing Ok compared to the others parts of Brazil, now DF appears as the 1st in numbers of deaths in comparison with its population.  103 deaths for every 100,000 habitants. Source: correioweb

It's so sad that months after the 1st reported case of COVID-19 in Brazil, this disease continue to infect so many people and take out the lives of so many.

Now the discussion in the news is about the schools. The reopening has already been postponed a couple of times. Will it really open to the students by the end of September?

News from Brasilia 09/01/2020

Just for a change, let's start this post with a picture of ipê amarelo?

My family in Brasilia and friends have been taking gorgeous pictures with yellow ipê. I know it's so dry, the grass is brownish, but this beauty? Wow! It doesn't last long! So, enjoy! And get ready for the other colors. The white ipe is also wow.

I hope you all are well and enjoying Brasilia somehow. We are in September and still coronavirus is a huge concern. It seems we will have to live with this virus surrounding us for a while. I think I mentioned before that I had plans to travel to Brazil in July. Unfortunately our flight was cancelled so we stayed in Poland for the summer vacation. In a way it was good because we traveled a lot around Poland (beautiful country!). Our neighbors joke that we must know Poland better that a lot of Poles. I think that's what expats do: we are curious and we want to know a lot about the place we are living since we all know it's temporary.

How has been your experience living in Brasilia? Do you have a question? Let me know and maybe I can help you with that!

Now, COVID-19 news :(

Coronavirus in Brasilia
162 042 confirmed cases and 2521 deaths.
