A BBC article about Brasilia

This article about Brasilia was published 8 years ago, you may find it useful to read.

I found it interesting, although I absolutely disagree with some parts of it. Brasilia has changed enormously throughout the years. Some changes for the best, some changes for the worse. I was born in Sao Luis, but I went to live in Brasilia when I was only 1 year old.  The Brasilia of my childhood was safer, smaller and many of the neighborhood didn't even exist, such as Aguas Claras, Setor Sudoeste e Setor Noroeste. Back them, the adults used to joke that "the best hospital of Brasilia was the airport" or Brasilia had no night life, etc.
Not true! Of course it is nothing compared to Rio de Janeiro, but you will be surprised for the amount of options available to have fun in Brasilia (out of pandemics, of course)

About the lack of street life, I have to admit, it is true. I don't like the fact that we need a car to go to almost everywhere in Brasilia. That's why I have always loved to live in the Plano Piloto (South Wing or North Wing). There is bakery, pharmacy, some shops and sometimes grocery store and fitness center within walking distance.

Well, Brasilia it is indeed a different city. A great one, in my opinion. And I hope you make the best of your stay in Brazil. If I can be of any help, please let me know (you can leave a comment or send me an email: erikaberbert@gmail.com)

Brasilia has an amazingly beautiful sky

The weather forecast for the next days in Brasilia is sun, sun, sun! Do you do Celsius or Fahrenheit? As I was born and raised in Brazil, my mind is all about degrees Celsius, kg, km. If your head, in the other hand, just works with inches, feet, miles, yard, I won't lie: you'll be in trouble in Brazil. LOL. Just kidding.

Why we don't all use the same system, the same units?? 😁

Hello from Poland

Olá!

Following a friend's suggestion, I will post some videos from now on. I know the last news haven't been so good as the pandemic is still on and Brazil is struggling to defeat this battle against coronavirus.

But Brasilia has so much to offer and as many of you won't live in Brasilia for many years, so there is no time to waste.

I do hope I can bring some useful tips and information. If you want to ask something, you can write in the comments or you can send me an email (please write in the subject: Living in Brasilia. So it would be easier for me to know what the message is about) erikaberbert@gmail.com

Welcome!

My name is Erika Berbert, I am Brazilian and I currently live in Warsaw, Poland. I was born in Sao Luis, Maranhão, but I moved to Brasilia with my parents when I was only a toddler and I stayed there until I was a was a grown up.

Because of my husband's work (he is a Brazilian diplomat), I have been living abroad for the last 10 years (with a 3 years window, when we got back to Brasilia). His first international assignment was Geneva, then Asuncion, Houston and now Warsaw.

I have thought about writing a blog to foreigners who live in Brasilia for a long time. But when I got to a country I didn't speak a word (after 7 months here, I still don't speak much Polish), I realized how it can affect our daily life. When you don't know the language, you don't know well what's going on in the city and you may not enjoy fully the city. And my wish is that every person that has to live in Brasilia fall in love with the city and be happy there.
So let me know how can I help you. Leave questions, comments and I will answer that the best I can.
